I am a first year medical student at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Urbana/Champaign, IL. I intend to pursue a career in academic medicine, with research interests in domestic and global health policy and health outcomes research. My current clinical interests are in critical care medicine and infectious disease.

Along with my medical education, I have a broad background in policy, economics, and business. In 2006 I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, with concentrations in political science and general biology. In 2008 I received my Masters in Public Policy (MPP) degree from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. My area of concentration was Science, Technology, and Public Policy. I also had two methodological concentrations in specific policy analysis tools. The first was Regulation and Industry Analysis, which included courses in finance and the regulation of large private corporations. The second was Negotiations and Conflict Resolution, which provided intensive negotiations training and leadership development. Along with my policy studies, I also had courses at the Harvard School of Public Health, Harvard Business School and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

My research interests include:
  • The role of science and technology in economic development in low-resource settings, both internationally and domestically, for example through the development of high-technology industries, particularly those related to medicine and the life sciences (e.g., biotechnology and pharmaceuticals).
  • The relationship of science & technology to national and international security, particularly bioterrorism and the management of pandemic infectious disease.
  • The role of government and non-profit entities in encouraging development of long-term solutions to social problems that may not be fulfilled through market mechanisms, particularly in industries requiring heavy up-front capital investment, such as technology companies (e.g., social and environmental impacts of industrial development)
